Explore Honfleur's sights at your leisure and according to your own interests on a tour that's endlessly customizable. Set at the confluence of the Seine and English Channel, Honfleur was an important trading port during the Middle Ages. Today, it's known as the birthplace of the Impressionist and Romantic art movements and for its picturesque and historic Old Town, which is a great place to begin your self-guided tour. Stroll along the narrow cobblestone streets past imposing 15th century structures like St. Catherine's Church, France's largest timber-built church with a separate bell tower. Vieux Bassin, the beautiful old harbor with its colorful timber-frame houses is considered Honfleur's most photographed spot. The Leiutenance overlooking the harbor was the home of the French king's lieutenant until the 17th century. Just minutes away is the quiet Garden of Personalities, a retreat dedicated to artists like da Vinci, Monet and Native son Eugène Boudin.
