Around the world, the Sea of Cortez is renowned as one of the premier locations for sea kayaking. This two-hour excursion, although strenuous, will reward you with an astonishing array of spectacular sights. So don't forget to take your camera and wear a swimsuit under your clothes and take along a towel, a hat and sunscreen.

Your transportation will pick you up at the pier for the short drive to Balandra Bay. Home to eight inlets, a coral reef and beautiful white sand beaches, Balandra Bay is framed by purple and ochre cliffs. As the boat approaches the beach you may see the unusual rock formation known as Mushroom Rock, or El Hongo as it's called by the locals. Sculpted by the forces of nature, the 14-foot tall, 18-ton sedimentary "mushroom" measures 10 feet wide and sits precariously atop a narrow base.

Arrive at the beach where you'll learn how to properly handle your kayak. After your short instructional briefing and lesson in paddling techniques, you'll be assigned a one or two man kayak and your guide will lead you to the warm waters of Paradise Cove. After donning your life vest, you'll enter the tranquil water. Whether this is your first time kayaking or you're an old pro, the scenery you'll paddle through is so breathtaking, you may find it indescribable so have your camera handy so you can show the folks back home. You'll have over an hour to skim the glassy water, which at times has a depth of less than a foot. A natural thicket of verdant mangrove trees dot the cove and provides perfect cover for an abundance of seabirds so as you row, keep an eye out for the egrets, herons, pelicans and frigate birds that make this area their home.

Once you return to the beach, you can sit and relax with a refreshing drink, do a little beach combing or gaze out at the pristine water while making plans to return.

When this fun adventure ends, you'll board your transportation once again cross the Sea of Cortez and safely return to your ship and onto the next exciting port.
