The stunning highlight of this captivating half-day tour from La Coruña is the magnificent Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. You'll be struck with awe as you stand before the awesome burial place of Spain's patron saint, the Apostle James. The stunning Baroque façade with its lavish twin towers leads to the Romanesque interior with its lavish altar, subterranean crypt where the relics of St. James rest in a silver urn, statue of St. James at which the faithful bow and pray and a reliquary containing a piece of the True Cross of Jesus. After visiting the Cathedral and squares of Obradoiro and Platerías, you will have some free time to explore independently or wander through the squares to shop for souvenirs and religious articles among the local vendors before re-boarding your motorcoach for the return drive to your ship.
Special Notes:
The drive between La Coruña and Santiago de Compostela is approximately one hour each way, subject to traffic conditions.On Sundays, most stores close and shopping will be limited.
Modest dress is required inside the Cathedral.
During Mass services, visits and photography are not permitted.
Tour guides will provide commentary outside of the Cathedral, in the interior the visit will be non-guided. Passengers will be given free time to visit the interior independently.
This tour is entirely on foot, with an approximately 15-minute walk from city's bus terminal to Cathedral and another 15-minute walk back. The motorcoach will not park at the city's bus terminal and will only stop long enough to disembark/embark all passengers. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
