From La Coruña quayside, follow your guide on a leisurely walk to La Coruña's Old Town, passing by the Mendez Núnéz Gardens. Stop for photographs at the San Carlos Gardens. The British General Sir John Moore is buried here; Moore was killed during the 1809 Peninsular Campaign against Napoleon. Your guided walking tour will continue towards the Old City, which boasts well preserved medieval architecture. The sights include the Santo Domingo Convent and the Romanesque Churches of Santa María del Campo, completed in 1302, and Santiago, the oldest church in Coruña. Santa Barbara Square is the site of a convent that was converted from an 11th century synagogue. The heart of the Old City is María Pita Square, home to the monumental Palacio Municipal. Your guide will offer a briefing on how to return to the ship as well as the local shops and cafes. Enjoy free time for independent sightseeing and shopping.
