Join this tour to celebrate Kyoto's hottest summer festival, "Gion Matsuri (Festival)". Gion Matsuri has been held every year since 869 and is city's biggest and one of the most famous festival in Japan. It began when plague was spread over Japan and originally began to pray for the deliverance from plague and become a magnificent celebration in Kyoto nowadays. In July, Gion Matsuri continues over the months so many events are going on in each day throughout the city. Especially two days (17 &24 July) turns the city into the huge party when gorgeously detailed decorated floats are displayed and then pulled through the streets which is called Yamahoko procession. Both are elaborately decorated and used elegant craftwork such as woven fabric, dyed textiles and sculptures. The reserved seats will be prepared along the street so you can see the festival from your own seats. After that, you will be transferred back to the ship.
Special Notes:
-We expect that the temperature might be very high and high humidity. A bottle of water is included and guests are suggested to bring additional water.-It takes approx. 15-20 mins walk to arrive at the seating area due to the traffic closure and restriction.
-We are expected to have a seat 30 mins in advance due to the preparation for the processions.
-Restroom is very limited around the seating area.
-The seats will be prepared on the street without roof. Bring a hat, sunglasses, adequate sun protection and a rain coat.
-There are no announcement in English during the tour. Please follow the instruction of the tour guide.
-This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. Guests must be in a good physical condition.
-There is no wheelchair accessible seat available for this tour.
-Bring local currency for additional purchases.
-Traffic and weather conditions may affect tour schedule.
-This tour is escorted in both English and Japanese.
