Board your motorcoach for a narrated drive to Kyoto. Your first stop is Nijo Castle. Completed in 1626 for Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, the castle encompasses the Ninomaru Palace (famous for its "nightingale" floors, which would squeak alerting the bodyguards of an intruder). Your next destination is a Golden Pavilion. Its most notable feature is the glimmering gold leaf that gilds the upper two stories. Next, enjoy a Western lunch at a local hotel. A visit to the Heian Shrine is next. An Imperial Shinto shrine, it boasts one of the largest Torii gates in Japan. Then, you're off to the Kyoto Handicraft Center where you're free to shop. Your tour concludes with a drive along the same scenic route back to your ship.
