One of the oldest towns in Lithuania, 13th-century Kretinga is a Roman Catholic enclave, and you'll have the opportunity to experience its spiritual center with a visit to a 17th-century church and Franciscan monastery. The serenity of this historic church greets you, as does the 400-year-old main altar, which has been restored to its authentic glory. You may walk the Stations of the Cross and venture down into the church crypts. The adjoining Franciscan monastery offers a glimpse into how this renowned monastic order lived and worked and showcases Renaissance and baroque architectural elements. Then explore the Kretinga Museum at Count Tiskevicius's 19th-century estate. Peruse a collection of Lithuanian wooden art and objects of authentic Lithuanian living. You will be offered a light refreshments in a former water mill. A scenic drive through the lush countryside returns you to Klaipeda.
Special Notes:
The sequence of stops listed in the itinerary may vary in order to prevent congestion. The church holds religious functions and sometimes can be full of people. Cellars of the church will not be accessible during the religious functions.Camera fee for the Count's mansion museum and the Winter Garden is included in the tour price. After the tour guests may stay in the Klaipeda Old Town and later walk back to the ship by themselves. The distance from the Old Town to the ship is approx. 900 yards.
