Description
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
Your excursion begins as you board your motorcoach for a short drive to the flight terminal, where you'll board a floatplane then soar over Misty Fjords, the nation's second largest wilderness area and a place of exceptional beauty. The Misty Fjords National Monument is home to some of the most dramatic scenery in Alaska, and only by air will you be able to fully appreciate the dramatic beauty of land, slowly crafted by the hands of nature over tens of thousands of years. The spectacular seaplane features large windows for exceptional views, and individual headsets allowing you to enjoy the lively narrative and inspirational music, specially selected as an accompaniment to the stunning sights unfolding before you.
Set aside as a fully protected wilderness area in 1978, Misty Fjords National Monument encompasses more than two million acres. Discover on this once-in-a-lifetime flight, breathtaking 1000-foot cascading waterfalls, glistening lakes and low-hanging mists on your flight from the Tongass Narrows over the volcanic Revillagigedo Island to Misty Fjords. Then marvel at the sheer walls of granite plunging over 3,000 feet into the fjords and the lush forests of spruce, hemlock and cedar clinging to snowcapped peaks, set in this land of incredible natural beauty and rugged grandeur.
The narrated flight culminates with the thrill of a water landing at the remote George Inlet Lodge, a rustic yet elegant oasis that once served as an early 1900s cannery bunkhouse.
Hope you're hungry as you'll be seated in a private dining room to snack on smoked salmon while you learn of the colorful history of the lodge and its epic journey across 90 miles of ocean to its current location. You'll sip white wine or Alaskan Amber beer as your host entertains you with stories of Alaska, Ketchikan and the wilderness lifestyle. Then enjoy an all-you-can eat Dungeness crab feast, complete with fresh Oriental salad and cheesecake smothered in Alaska blueberries.
You'll cap your day off with souvenir shopping and a scenic coastal drive back to the pier, passing totem poles, a fish hatchery and a U.S. Coast Guard Station.
