After a 30-minute drive from the harbor in your motorcoach, you'll arrive to the gateway to Olympia. Your first destination is the Olympia Archaeological Site, home to the Temple of Zeus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Although just a chaotic heap of ruins today, the dimensions of the temple are truly impressive. The Temple of Hera is also yours to explore, as is Stadium where the Olympics began nearly 1,500 years ago. A short walk away, the Archaeological Museum displays some of the temple's finest decorative sculpture. Next, you'll visit the Ancient Olympic Games Museum, where you'll learn of the many athletic feats that took place a millennium ago, and view architectural finds. Your tour concludes with an authentic Greek lunch at a first-class venue and shopping in the modern village of Olympia.
Special Notes:
In order to protect the historic environment, local regulations require motorcoaches to park approximately 1,200 yards from the exit of the Olympia site. The tour also involves extensive walking over gravel and uneven paths. Depending on parking, passengers may be asked to cross a bridge with 25 steps in order to reach the Archeological Museum. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Passengers with limited mobility should take this into consideration.Flash photography is not allowed in the museum. Bring a hat.
