Framed by a breathtaking landscape of uninhabited fjords surrounded by beautiful snow-streaked mountains and steep, ragged cliffs, the Westfjords area was distinguished with the prestigious 'European Destination of Excellence' award. No wonder it's a haven for whales and other aquatic creatures, as well as photographers and outdoor enthusiasts. This leisurely tour of the awe-inspiring Westfjords begins with a 10-minute walk from the pier to your waiting boat. Once aboard, your captain will steer a course across the waters of the 53-mile-long Isafjardardjup--one of Iceland's largest fjord systems with eight different individual fjords and three islands. Have your camera handy as you soak up the views while you cruise along the rugged Snaefjallastrond coastline in search of whales, seals and dolphins. Across the bay, you can see the picturesque Vigur Island, home to 100,000 puffin couples and thousands of ducks, arctic terns, and black guillemots.

Special Notes:

Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed; however, the success rate for seeing whales on this tour is very high. Prime time for whale watching in Iceland is the late spring to early autumn months (May through September). Guests who suffer from motion sickness should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication. There are several steps to negotiate to reach the inside seating on the boat. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf. Wear sturdy, non-skid, close-toe walking shoes (preferably waterproof) with thick wool socks.
