Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

At just over a mile long and 450 yards wide, your guided walking tour of Vigur is a leisurely stroll through a pristine and tranquil landscape. About 8,000 puffins, eider ducks, and Arctic terns share Vigur with the same family who settled here 100 years ago and who make their living by farming and harvesting the down of the eider ducks. Many of the structures were built in the 19th century including the windmill. Built in 1830, it's the last of its kind in Iceland. Along your walk, you'll also see a carefully preserved 200-year-old, 8-oar rowboat still used to transport sheep to the mainland for summer grazing. Complimentary beverages and pastries await you at Viktoria House, built in 1862 and restored by the National Museum of Iceland.

Special Notes:

In Isafjordur, there is a short walk, approx. 200 yards from the pier to where the boat to Vigur is located.
On the island, there is a slight incline from the small pier up the island. The island has minimal inclines.
Approximately 1 3/4 to 2 hours is spent walking on the island; dress appropriately; wear a warm jacket and comfortable walking shoes.

Sighting of birds (including puffins) cannot be guaranteed after mid-August due to both the season and the weather.

When exploring Vigur, keep strictly to the pathways; marine birds such as the Arctic Tern aggressively guard their earthen nests that are often built within a few steps of the pathways.

Passengers prone to sea sickness should take precautions; tour involves an approximately 30 minute voyage where rough sea conditions can be encountered.

Some seating on the vessel will be outside; not all passengers will be in an enclosed cabin. Dress appropriately.

The refreshments consist of sweet Icelandic pastries. It is not possible to request gluten free or other dietary restricted refreshments.
