Have a passion for exploring world treasures? This 3 day Grand Overland Tour to Angkor Wat provides an active Indiana Jones-style adventure deep into the heart of Southeast Asia. And it includes lavish meals, deluxe accommodations, and convenient international flights and transfers for exceptional value.
Your first full day begins in Ho Chi Minh City with a visit to the National History Museum and a Water Puppet show. Photo stops at the Notre Dame Cathedral, The Reunification Hall, the French Colonial Post Office, and the City Hall provide indelible images of Vietnam's largest city.
You'll also shop at the Minh Phuong Lacquer Factory, tour the Sea Goddess Temple in Chinatown, and enjoy a bountiful buffet lunch with traditional music. And you'll make a Photo stop at the Rex Hotel before continuing to the airport for departure to Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Here, you'll fly to Siem Reap, gateway to Angkor Wat. Meet your tour guide; transfer and check into your hotel, then relax over a lavish dinner starring fine local cuisine.
After breakfast on Day 2, set off for the haunting beauty of Ta Phrom Temple where the massive roots of ancient trees have grown right into the stone. At the Banteay Srey Temple, marvel at the intricately carved pink sandstone reliefs. Then, after a relaxing lunch at the Tara Hotel, continue to Angkor Thom, an astounding 10-square-mile city complex that is home to the majestic Bayon Temple and The Terrace of the Leper King.
The highlight of your travels will undoubtedly be Angkor Wat, one of the world's most awe-inspiring monuments. Here, a richly woven tapestry of temples, over 100 in all, reveals the ancient splendor of the Khmer civilization. Constructed between the 9th and 12th centuries, the site honors the Hindu god Vishnu and is a symbolic representation of Hindu cosmology. An enormous temple gives form to the mythical Mt. Meru and draws upon inter-nested walls and moats to represent mountain ranges and the cosmic sea.
The short dimensions of the vast compound are precisely aligned along a north-south axis, while the east-west axis has been deliberately diverted to provide observers with a three day anticipation of the spring equinox. Leaving Angkor Wat, you'll drive to the Central Market for shopping and then transfer to your hotel for a poolside dinner. Enjoy a performance of traditional Apsara dances before turning in at the hotel.
On day three, you'll wake up to a bountiful breakfast and then transfer to the airport for your return flight to Bangkok to rejoin your vessel.
