Witness Mother Nature's brutal beauty as you discover Kilauea's most recent lava flows along the East Rift Zone, including the historic flows of 2018. Joined by a National Park Service certified guide, you'll enjoy an in-depth look at Hawaii's volcanology, geology, and history. First, take a walk along the altered coastline and cliffs overlooking the new black sand beach of MacKenzie State Recreation Area. Next is Isaac Hale Beach Park where lava flows encircled this popular park miraculously sparing the infrastructure while completely destroying everything around it. Then, visit Star of the Sea Painted Church, moved twice to save it from advancing lava flows. The final stop is Hilo Bay to enjoy a deli-style lunch. Wwim or grab a free snorkel set; kayaks and paddle boards are available to rent. Or shop for Kona coffee, macadamia nuts, and other local products and crafts before heading back to the port.
