What you will visit:
Torshavn
Settled by Vikings around 900 A.D., Torshavn is the capital city of the Faroe Isles. One of the smallest capital cities in the world, it is the government, banking and educational center of the land. This pretty town of 20,000 rises gently up the hillside from the water's edge, dotted with red painted government buildings and charming turf-roofed cottages. Restaurants and cafes can be found nestled alongside the national theater, the national library and several delightful museums.
Kollafjordur
This tiny village of less than a thousand people lies tucked along the main road and along the side of the impressive Kollafjørdur Fjord. Its austere church, built in 1937, is a focal point with is black tarred exterior, turf roof and pristine white bell tower perched against the backdrop of the sweeping fjord below.
Saksun
This remote village is home to only a handful of people. Located in a natural amphitheater, the town is perched on a sandy-rimmed lagoon accessible only at high tide by small boats. A church and small museum, which doubles as a sheep farm, are set in lush green fields, and the village offers a stunning view of the surrounding mountains.
What you will see along the way:
The narrow streets of Torshavn wind past charming turf-topped cottages, rising up a gentle slope from the bustling harbor. The placid water is home to small boats and yachts moored near passenger ships and giant merchant ships that bring goods to the area.
