The Falkland Islands offer vast landscapes, coastal vistas and exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities, often referred to as the 'Galapagos of the South.' Grab your camera and a zoom lens if you have one and journey from port on a 4WD vehicle to Kelp Point, a corner of the island only recently opened to the public. Your exclusive adventure begins with a scenic, 1.5-hour off-road excursion through the rugged Falklands' terrain. You'll drive past one of the island's largest farms before arriving at Kelp Point. Here, an elephant seal colony will greet you with a nonchalant hello. Elephant seals are docile giants who laze on the shoreline or in the large wallows. You'll be able to get quite close to these luxuriating mammals. Spend approximately 45 minutes taking incredible pictures, then travel a short distance to a long-tailed gentoo penguin rookery. Stroll the nearby sandy beach and enjoy a boxed lunch before the relaxing drive back to port.
Special Notes:
Ride will be bumpy. Pregnant women or guests with back or neck conditions are not allowed to participate. The drive is over extremely rough terrain in a 4x4 vehicle. Travel time to the site is approximately 1½ hours. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf. Wear sturdy walking shoes. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed; penguin colonies can be seasonal.Details
