On this fun-filled, two-hour adventure you'll travel from the Jetty Visitors Center to Newans Station where you'll transfer to your 4WD vehicle and go off road across this breathtaking landscape to Newans Farm, home of about 200 breeding pairs of gentoo penguins. After climbing out of the vehicle, feel free to walk around. On land these waddling creatures stand 20-to 36-inches tall and reach a maximum weight of 19 pounds, which makes the gentoo the third largest-sized penguin. Although the penguins are familiar with human interaction, it's always wise to be cautious. During your visit some of the gentoo's neighbors may appear - the rookery is usually frequented with Southern giant petrels, skuas, rock cormorants, upland geese, turkey vultures, kelp gulls and flightless steamer ducks. Photos taken, you'll climb back aboard the 4x4 for the return trip to the Center ready for your next adventure.
Special Notes:
Tour is not recommended for passengers with back, neck or similar problems due the bumpy, off-road drive. Dress warmly and bring comfortable walking shoes. This excursion operates through mid-February.Details
