WHAT YOU VISIT
Historical Churches of Charlottetown Walking Tour
Trinity United Church
Charlottetown's oldest church in continuous use was built in 1864, shortly after the convention that led to the country's confederation. Known for its magnificent stained-glass windows, Trinity can accommodate 1,000 worshippers.
St. Dunstan's Basilica
A National Historic Site of Canada, the church, which sits in the center of town, was designed and built in the French-inspired interpretation of the High Victorian Gothic Revival style between 1896 and 1907. Rebuilt in 1913 following a devastating fire, the elaborate church is one of the town's most visible landmarks, particularly its soaring spires.
St. James Presbyterian Church
Unlike the stone churches in town, St. James Presbyterian features a wooden ceiling and interior columns. Constructed in 1878, it's believed to be haunted by three women who ring the church bells, a 19th century legend that's been commemorated on stamps.
All Souls Chapel
Erected in 1888 in the High Victorian Gothic Revival style of rust-red, Prince Edward Island sandstone, this National Historic Site is attached to St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral.
