A fun, paddling eco-tour offering both novice and seasoned kayakers the experience of exploring Catalina Island's inaccessible coastline. 

Your two-and-a-half hour tour begins at the green Pleasure Pier and after a short, narrated walk through Avalon you will arrive at Descanso Beach, the site of Catalina's only seaside bar and restaurant. It is also the perfect place to launch a kayaking adventure! 

Here, your qualified instructor and Conservancy-trained guide will outfit you and teach you the basics for paddling your seagoing sit-on-top kayak for two, you'll find it's very stable and easy to maneuver.  Mom and Dad can carry a small child between them on the double kayak, while experienced paddlers may opt for single kayaks.

As you glide above giant kelp forests and numerous varieties of fish, your guide will point out interesting landmarks, plant life and birds.  There's always something wild to see… a Harbor Seal may peek at you from offshore rocks; a Bald Eagle may snag a fish from the water nearby; if you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse of the sleek (and harmless) Leopard Shark in the shallows beneath you; while playful Sea Lions and Dolphins abound offshore.  A scenic 40 minute paddle with interpretive rest stops will bring you to Frog Rock Beach and an opportunity to land and stretch your legs or take a quick swim in the cool sea (bring your towels, we provide dry bags).  You'll also enjoy an energy snack (from our local Avalon bakery) and bottled water before starting the leisurely paddle back to Descanso Beach.

At the conclusion of the tour, your hosts will present you with a souvenir certificate to commemorate your Catalina Kayak Expedition.

Special Notes:

Minimum age is 5 years. Sunscreen, a towel and bathing suit are recommended. Lockers are available to rent. No experience is necessary. All equipment, bottled water, a light energy snack and a souvenir certificate are provided.
