What you will visit:

Catalina Island:
A warm and welcoming resort, Catalina is noted for its beautiful coastline, an unspoiled habitat for an abundance of wildlife. The waters in these areas are home to Pacific harbor seals that stay close to shore in subtidal and intertidal zones. They also host California sea lions, dolphins and (from February to March) gray whales on their way to their feeding ground in Alaska. Steeped in geological significance and history, these waters were fished by the Tongva tribe, and Portuguese explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, while sailing for Spain, was the first European to set foot on the island. During the next 300 years, the island hosted many visitors, including Russian otter hunters, Yankee smugglers, itinerant fishermen, and even the Chicago Cubs baseball team.

Avalon Underwater Park

This approximately two-acre marine park both restricts boat access and is a no-hunt zone, which accounts for the abundance of snorkel- and diver-friendly fish. Walk down concrete steps and into the invigorating waters, known for their clarity and calm. Many colorful species can be found in the waters-from the California state fish, the orange garibaldi, to señoritas, black sea bass, tri-colored male sheepshead, and perch that come out from within the lush kelp bed. Suitable for confident swimmers who will be provided all snorkeling equipment and a wetsuit.

What you will see along the way:
The unspoiled coast of Catalina is home to plentiful marine life unique to these waters. As you walk to your snorkel entry point, enjoy views of charming Avalon, with its lively waterfront, seaside restaurants and shops, and historic landmark buildings, including the Casino, built in the late 1920s by chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr.
