Explore Cartagena's historic past and discover its ancient cultural heritage on a walking tour from the pier that begins at the ruins of the 2,000-year-old Roman Theater. Continue through the town of Cartagena, admiring the historic architecture and learning of the town's role in the history of old Spain. Arrive at the Roman Forum, an open-air archaeological site dating back to the first century, and peruse the remnants of a Roman colony from 54 B.C. known as Carthago Nova. Pause at the charming Plaza de San Francisco for 30 minutes of free time. Next, visit the city's civil war shelters, underground bunkers built during the country's civil war.
