This traditional marketplace had a rather humble beginning. During the Korean War in 1950, war refugees would set up little stalls, trying to eke out a living. It developed into the place for military supplies for the U.S. Army and imported goods, and over time it grew to the bustling market it is today; but an old-fashioned spirit still prevails. There are bargains to be found by those with a keen eye. Don't miss the local treat, hoddeok, a sweet, fried cake bursting with crunchy sunflower seeds. It is the perfect portable snack to munch on as you peruse the stalls.
