Set out on a leisurely panoramic bus tour of Brest and discover its intriguing history. Little is known of Brest's early history but Roman coins and other relics dating from 193 to 211 have been found on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Penfeld River where a Roman fort once stood. Today, the imposing 13th century Chateau de Brest stands on this outcrop. Across from the Chateau de Brest stands the Tanguy Tower; erected in the 14th century, it was the seat of justice for the lords of Le Châtel and, today, houses a museum dedicated to city history. Further on, you'll pass Pont de Recouvrance, once the largest vertical-lift bridge in Europe and Oceanopolis, a marine science discovery park where 10,000 animals live in temperate, polar or tropical environments. Not far from Océanopolis is White Mill Beach, a popular destination for families, surfers, windsurfers and sea kayakers.
