Following the fall of Rome, Bretons crossed the English Channel to the area between the 4th and 7th centuries. Acclaimed as Brittany's most traditional region, Quimper possess a distinctive Breton character with flags celebrating the region's Celtic heritage flying throughout the city. Experience the wonder of traditional Breton with a walking tour of its medieval section. One of its highlights is St. Corentin Cathedral; founded in 1239, the vibrant stained-glass windows date between the 15th and 19th centuries. Since 1690, Quimper has been known for the production of faience--elegant hand-painted pottery that often features decorative flowers and animals, usually framed by blue and yellow borders.
