When Romans settled along the coast of Bay of Biscay around 2,200 B.C., they found the Mediterranean-type weather, fertile soil, and pastoral hillsides ideal for winemaking. And today, the winemaking Basque region is famed for its award-winning wines and wineries like Bodega Gorka Izagirre. Learn to appreciate the unique flavors and blends of Basque grapes with a tour and a tasting that begins with a brief scenic ride into the heart of Basque country. Along the way, you'll stop at Archanda Mount. Rising 251 meters (823 feet), it offers lovely views over Bilbao and the Basque Mountains that frame the Nervion River. Photos taken, you'll continue on to Gorka Izagirre. Established in 2005 by the Izagirre family, the tour describes how cutting edge technology marries with traditional methods to create delicious red and white wines.
