Make meaningful connections on this impact travel excursion that supports both the Belizean rainforest wildlife and the local community's efforts to boosts its economy with its natural resource. Begin with a scenic hour-long drive through local villages to the Community Baboon Sanctuary, where you'll be inspired by the heartwarming community that came together to protect the native black howler monkeys (baboons in Creole). You'll receive an orientation at the visitors center, where a local guide will give you a behind-the-scenes look at the sanctuary and share its mission then proceed into the lush vegetation to observe the monkeys first-hand. You will also learn about Creole heritage and culture through demonstrations of local traditions such as fly brush making, rice beating, and cashew wine tasting. Once you have completed your visit to the Howler Monkey Sanctuary you will be treated to a Belizean lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch you will travel back to Belize City for a guided city tour with your guide pointing out the most important sites of the city.
Special Notes:
Minimum age to participate is 5 years old. Recommended attire: clothes you don't mind getting dirty, closed toed shoes, hat, sunscreen and sunglasses, mosquito repellent, umbrella or rain jacket in case of rain, modest /conservative clothing. Especially important not to forget insect repellent. Pregnant women are not allowed to participate. Proceeds support the Conservation Group and the preservation of the Sanctuary.
