What you will visit:
Carriage Ride in Acadia National Park
Reminiscent of days gone by when horsepower referred to four-legs, not four wheels, your tour will gently circle Day Mountain, part of the Rockefeller estate before he donated 11,000 acres to the National Park. The 45 miles of carriage roads that weave through the park and its 17 unique granite bridges were built by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. between 1913 and 1940. Rockefeller prohibited cars on the roads back then and to this day, motorized vehicles are not allowed. So relax as your carriage meanders around dense forests and ocean overlooks.
What you will see along the way:
Journey along the picturesque 27-mile Park Loop Road, which will take you along the ocean's edge past Sand Beach, Schooner Head Overlook, and the High Seas mansion built by a wealthy gentleman whose wife perished on the Titanic. Keep an eye out for white-tail deer as you travel through pine forests and enjoy a scenic photo stop along the way. On your return trip to the pier, you'll travel past some of the opulent mansions that were built by Bar Harbor's prominent citizens during the 1870s and 1880s.
Special Notes:
The carriage ride may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Carriages hold 6 -10 people. Participation on this tour is extremely limited. Tour may operate in reverse sequence.Child Price:
