A guided walking tour of Athens' most treasured sights begins at the historic Acropolis. Climb the 80 steep steps through the Propylaea, the monumental marble gateway. Beyond, on the highest point, stands the Parthenon, one of the greatest monuments of ancient civilization. On the north side of the Acropolis lays the Erectheum, the sacred site where it was decided that Athena would rule the city. After viewing the ruins, travel past the Old Olympic Stadium, built to host the games in 1896, en route to Plaka, the historic shopping district where you'll have an hour of free time to browse through the narrow streets and stores. After lunch, embark on a scenic 1-hour drive down Attica's rugged western coast to Cape Sounion to visit the majestic Temple of Poseidon, a striking marble relic overlooking the Aegean Sea - a fitting monument to the God of the Sea.
