Held every year between August 2nd and 7th, Japan's Nebuta festival is the country's most popular, drawing a million spectators from around the world. Over 20 spectacular floats called nebutas are paraded through the city streets. They take an entire year to build and each is made of washi paper that's intricately painted with depictions of gods, mythical creatures or historical figures, and adorned with illuminated paper lanterns. Then they're pushed along the streets accompanied by dancers and drummers. You can attend the very first night and watch from your own reserved seat. Learn how these spectacular floats are created when artisans share their passion and inspiration with a visit to Rasse Land, where the floats are made and kept. Explore immersive exhibits and interactive displays at the Nebuta Museum that showcase the evolution of the nebuta tradition, from its ancient roots to its modern-day celebrations.
