The excitement of the ancient city of Hirosaki comes alive on this full-day adventure that begins with a scenic 90-minute drive to Hirosaki Castle Park. Constructed in 1611, the original structure was struck by lightning in 1627 and burned to the ground. Although rebuilt in 1810, the castle still retains an aura of its ancient past. This historical treasure sits tucked away in the lush and peaceful 121-acre Castle Park, home to one of Japan's most popular cherry blossom festivals. Next, learn about the fantastic floats used during Hirosaki's famous festival, the Nebuta Matsuri, held the first week of August. These large, two-dimensional, fan-shaped floats feature mythological warriors and grim battle scenes on one side and beautiful women on the other.
