The excitement of the ancient city of Hirosaki comes alive on this full-day adventure that begins with a scenic 90-minute drive to Hirosaki Castle Park. Constructed in 1611, the original structure was struck by lightning in 1627 and burned to the ground. Although rebuilt in 1810, the castle still retains an aura of its ancient past. This historical treasure sits tucked away in the lush and peaceful 121-acre Castle Park, home to one of Japan's most popular cherry blossom festivals. Next, learn about the fantastic floats used during Hirosaki's famous festival, the Nebuta Matsuri, held the first week of August. These large, two-dimensional, fan-shaped floats feature mythological warriors and grim battle scenes on one side and beautiful women on the other. Conclude at the 100-year-old Seibi-en Japanese Garden, a National Scenic Spot, and stroll among the fountains, waterfalls, pagodas and shrines that peacefully coexist on the property. Return to port.

Special Notes:

Hirosaki Castle tower is relocated for a 10-year renovation of its inner stone wall. The walking at Hirosaki Castle Park is over mostly flat, bare ground. From 11/23 to 3/31, the inside of the castle will be closed, and guests will be able to see only the exterior view. There are no elevators in the castle. To visit the floors inside, approximately 30 very steep (almost ladder) stairs are required; This tour is not recommended for passengers with walking difficulties. Hirosaki Castle Park is expected to be very crowded during the cherry blossom festival. Cherry blossom bloom is subject to weather. Some part of Seibi-en Garden is bare ground (uneven), and a few steps are required to be negotiated. Japanese yen are required for additional purchases. The tour order may vary.
