Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Your three-hour tour begins as you board your motorcoach for a scenic drive from Seward through Resurrection River Valley. Situated at the head of Resurrection Bay on the Kenai Peninsula, Seward is one of Alaska's oldest and most scenic communities, known as the "Gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park."

Your destination is Exit Glacier, one of the most accessible glaciers in southcentral Alaska, and the only glacier within the Kenai Fjords National Park approachable by road. The glacier spills from the 5,000-foot high ramparts of the Harding Icefield onto the Resurrection River Valley floor. Upon arriving, you'll be awestruck by its dense blue ice, and if you listen carefully, you can almost hear it crackle.

Lead by a naturalist/guide, follow a 2.5-mile walking trail through an alder forest, meeting the glacier's terminus (face) half way through your hike. The first half of the path is paved; the rest is gravel. As you journey, learn about the topography, vegetation and natural habitats of a glacial environment.

Your tour concludes with a scenic drive back to Seward. En route, your guide paints a colorful picture of the history and local lore of Seward. If you choose, you can get off in downtown Seward to shop and explore, and return to the pier via a shuttle.

Special Notes:

Participants should be able to cover a total distance of 2.5 miles on the trails. Proper footwear and clothing is recommended. Access to Exit Glacier is dependent on snow conditions and may be limited in the early summer.

Unaccompanied Minor Policy: Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Tour timeline may vary to avoid overcrowding, etc.
