A five and a half hour adventure in the culturally rich city of Puerto Plata is an opportunity to walk through the charming center of the city on a guided tour of its highlights. Learn about the late 19th- and early 20th-century Victorian-style architecture with its pastel colors and gingerbread motifs, then stroll over to the plastic arts art galleries to peruse the vibrant works by local artists. Continue on to Macorix Rum Experience, where you'll learn about the transformation of sugarcane into this full-bodied liquor taste included. Next, continue along the Malecón (waterfront) to see San Felipe Fortress, built in 1564 to guard the city against pirate invasions. Walk to San Felipe Cathedral and admire its white towers and the local activity of Independence Square. Pause here for a taste of fresh tropical coconut water and enjoy a snack at a local restaurant. Return to port with a camera filled with memories.
