Start your guided tour with short walk to the Norwegian Art Nouveau Center. Housed in the 1907 Swan Apothecary Building, the Center focuses both on Ålesund's Art Nouveau legacy as well as the influence of Art Nouveau in Norwegian society. Exhibits range from Art Nouveau-influenced advertising and posters to jewelry. Stroll through the city center as your guide points out fine examples of the Art Nouveau buildings erected in Ålesund following the 1904 fire. Immediate assistance was provided by Kaiser Wilhelm II, while a team of German and Norwegian architects redesigned and rebuilt the ruined town from 1905 to 1909. Stroll along the harbor – Ålesund is still Norway's most important fishing port. Continue to the park at the foot of Mt. Aksla and enjoy free time to view the statue of Gange Rolf or take in views of the city from the mountain trails.
Special Notes:
Participants must be in good physical condition and must be able to walk 2 miles over uneven and cobblestone surfaces. Not recommended for passengers with limited mobility. Parent or adult guardian must accompany minors under 18.This tour operates rain or shine. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a hat and a light waterproof jacket or windbreaker.
