Feel a sense of wonder during this laid-back excursion that begins with a drive to Mount Hlídarfjall, northern Iceland´s most popular winter ski resort. Rising 1,200 meters (3,937 feet), the mountain offers fantastic views over Akureyri and the Eyjafjordur. More scenic beauty awaits as you travel though Kjarnaskogur forest. Covering over 800 hectares (1,976 acres), it was once nothing but farmland until 1950 when the Akureyri Municipal Council began planting trees; today, Kjarnaskogur boasts 15 million trees, making it one of the largest forests in Iceland. Next, witness the seething power of inner earth come alive with a visit to Forest Lagoon, a new geothermal spa tucked away in Vadlaskogur forest. Find your peaceful place as you dip in its two infinity pools, cold tub and sauna. Refreshed, you'll return to your ship, passing the oldest part of Akureyri with houses dating back to the 1800s.
Special Notes:
Forest Lagoon has lockers where guests can change clothes. Towels are included; robes are not included but can be rented. Guests must swear swimsuits in the sauna. Children up to 16 years old must be accompanied by a guardian (18 years or older).Details
